Welcome to the very first Weekly Contest Recap here on the GamblersMix™ blog! Every week, players from around the country sit down to our free-to-play video poker contests. They chase high scores and try to climb the leaderboard, and we figured it was time to give those efforts the spotlight they deserve. Each Monday we'll look back at the week that was, celebrate the players who posted standout scores, share one practical strategy tip, and point you toward the next round of contests.

This first recap covers contest #7, which ran across three leaderboards: Heatwave 3-Hand, Heatwave 5-Hand and Lucky 7s. A quick note before we jump in: the standings below show only real community players. Spots held by our in-house and test accounts are left out, and nobody has been moved up to fill them. That's why you'll see a few gaps in the numbering. And yes, one player can hold more than one spot, because every entry gets its own place on the board.

Heatwave 3-Hand: The MidoriBang Show

If you watched the Heatwave 3-Hand leaderboard last week, one name kept popping up. MidoriBang took first place with an impressive 8,580 points, and then took second place too with 2,275 points. Holding the top two spots on one leaderboard takes steady focus over a lot of hands, and it's a great start to our recap series. Congratulations!

Right behind in third place was Russmorgan092191 with 1,330 points. Nice work rounding out the top three.

For anyone new to Heatwave: every entry starts with the Heat Meter at 0. Losing hands and losing streaks heat it up fastest, smaller wins add a little heat, and big wins cool it down. When it reaches 100, your next deal is a Bonus Round with a random 2X-10X multiplier, shown before the draw. Every player gets the same random odds on that multiplier, so nobody can buy or influence it.

Heatwave 5-Hand: A Tight Race at the Top

The 5-Hand board was a much closer race. VPpro claimed first place with 2,730 points, just ahead of the pack. Our 3-Hand standout MidoriBang showed up here too, taking second with 2,340 points, which made for a busy and impressive week. In third, GLUCAS2653 posted 2,255 points. That's another name veteran players will know from past Lucky 7s leaderboards.

With fewer than 500 points separating first from third, every hand mattered on this board.

Lucky 7s: Addy Leads the Way

Over on Lucky 7s, Addy took the top spot with 2,320 points. Fourth place went to Slick with 1,515 points, and fifth went to Nefferett with 1,490 points. Thanks to everyone who brought their best to the six-card format this week.

A quick refresher on how Lucky 7s works: you're dealt five cards from the Base Deck, and a sixth Lucky Card is held for you automatically from a separate Lucky Card Deck. Both decks include extra sevens. Your hand is the best five of those six cards. On top of that, the Lucky 7 multiplier counts the sevens and boosts that hand's points: 2 sevens = 2X, 3 = 3X, 4 = 5X, 5 = 7X and 6 = 10X. And if you land a Lucky Royal (10-J-Q-K-7, all hearts or all spades), it pays a fixed 8,000 points at MAX.

Strategy Tip of the Week: Discarded 7s Don't Count

Here's this week's tip, and it's an easy one to forget in the moment. In Lucky 7s, the multiplier counts only the sevens in your final five cards plus the Lucky Card. Any seven you discard does not count toward the multiplier. Before you hit Draw, take a second to count the sevens you're holding, including the Lucky Card. Make sure you aren't tossing one away without meaning to. A single seven can be the difference between a 2X and a 3X multiplier on that hand.
